You know, a thought on cleaning out a tank via the fuel sending unit opening - if you have zero gas in the tank, the tank weight very little, and can easily be taken down. Stick it in the bed of a truck and at a local car wash, spray a good high pressure stream into the thing and drain as much gunk as comes loose. You can then reseal the tank on your own (look to www[dot]eastwood[dot]com for tank sealers), and you're done. I paid to have mine cleaned out and via my dad while I was stationed overseas, I paid something like $200 to have it done.
A can of sealant won't cost much more than $30...
