If you post pictures we can help you more.

PS, I am not aware that older vin's can be decoded much beyond this:

1960-1983

Position 1-3 - model
Position 4-6 - chassis type & engine size designation
Position 7 - 1=LH Drive (made in Germany), 2=RH Drive (made in Germany), 5=LH Drive CKD, 6=RH Drive CKD (Complete Knocked Down, assembled outside Germany)
Position 8 - 0=Manual transmission ,1=Hydraulic clutch ,2= Automatic transmission
Position 9-14 - Construction serial number

Make a picture from the dataplate with all those codes under the bonnet and publish that.
Then you are able to see for where that car was build.

The car is probably not at all original. The headlamps were an upgrade, the same as the air dam. The Bumpers tell the tale. They are original to the car. The european car would likely have manual windows, no AC or Cruise, nor the lower markers. Having fold down rear seats would sort of seal the deal

Thanks redghost, I Have Power Windows, A/C and Cruise, No Jump seats. The headlights have been on there for quite some time as the reflector plates inside are rusted badly. All in all a nice solid car though..... Here begins the journey....lol

My Canadian MERCEDES dealer obtained a microfiche of the data card (for free !!) for my 1967 250 SE Sedan and it showed a code for the actual dealer in Belfield, Germany where the car was delivered.

Yes, you can email the Classic Center your VIN and they will send you the data card for your car which will indicate the receiving original dealer/country and your mystery will be solved. I have never known them to charge for this service and I further recommend reaching out to Tom Hanson at Classic Center Irvine when you seek parts as very often their prices match or are actually lower than resellers. This isn't always the case, some parts are simply astronomically priced, but it's always worth asking first and getting the genuine stuff.
