Oil Pressure Sensing Line

Good news/Bad news. Got home from a car show Sunday night and smelled oil. Looked at the car today and had a large puddle under the bell housing. Was afraid my new main seal had suffered infant failure but to my relief it was not coming from there or the head gasket (good news). The source of the leak is the hard plastic line from the back of the left hand head to the oil pressure gauge in the dash. This has failed before and luckily this time is had only pissed about a quart of oil out. (bad news)

This line is very hard and brittle in the engine bay. I have it patched temporarily with some heavy vacuum line, but can't find anything like this tubing anywhere. My Mercedes benz dealer couldn't even fathom what I was talking about much less supply a replacement.

Anyone ever replaced this line? I am fearful of the vacuum line as a permanent fix and cant find any pressure line that small.

I believe that line is made out of a Teclan plastic material. I've never understood why MB used this stuff instead of a hard line. If it were me, I'd take the remnants of the line and both ends to your local brake line vendor, and have them swage up a braided steel sheathed version for a permanent solution.

109 542 04 44 retails for $84 if still available. Try your dealer, then the Classic Center, and keep your fingers crossed.
