The day I took the videos the car started but ran the way I pictured in the FS videos. I never got it warmed up before needing to return to work.
Today I ran over with my daughter and got the car running almost as well, but not as well. Again, I had to get home. Many start attempts were worse, only getting what sounded like a single explosion.
Later I got a chance to get some new gas, starting fluid, carb/injector cleaner, and decided I should give the car a jump to make sure it wasn't a weak battery causing any problems. I got about a gallon of fresh gas (regular) in the tank (because I didn't bring a funnel and couldn't pour from my 5 gallon gas can). I tried starting. Similar results. Next I tried the ether/starting fluid. Not much of anything better. Never got the car running. I was again running out of time.
I was confident I was getting air. Confident I was getting combustible stuff in the carb, probably too rich I guess, but I wasn't confident about the spark.
Running out of time, I opened the distributor and looked at the points, and decided to try adjusting them. They were burnt, as was the rotor and cap. Rushing, I put my screwdriver in there before I shut off the ignition, and got a tiny spark. I never got combustion spark again. It may just be because I incorrectly eyeball gapped the points, but I wonder if I fried something with my tiny spark. Any ideas?
I need to go back when I can gap the points properly and get someone to crank while I measure the dwell.
