job done !, it was a nice sunny day so what better way to spend it than under the rear of an old car stinking of diesel!
the filter came out along with plenty of black bits. the filter was broken and essentially was not working at all. Ill blow out the lines again before getting the a new filter

thanks again for the "how to". very useful

ps I used the can of dirty diesel to flush the tank a few times again straining the dirt out each time, after 3 times it started coming out with less lumps in it
