feeling pleased with myself !!!..after a crappy day yesterday full of rust and getting nowhere with the engine, today was the opposite.
bought 2 14mm spanners and set to with the valve adjustment, most of the valve where tight especially the exhaust ones. after a bit of a learning curve, the job is quite easy, and I didnt have to buy the special bent spanners (although they would make life easier)
a great " how to" is here
Mercedes Diesel Valve Adjustment Procedure
also I managed to find a can of diesel purge in town (big surprise!) so I flushed the injectors also.
the air bubble problem seems to have gone thanks to putting new clamps on the tube connections..so alex I think you were right there!
so I started her up fully primed, and what a difference!, much more responsive throttle control, and more perky as a drive. I´m not sure about starting time yet as obviously the engine is warm, but I hope that should be easier also.
however!..still the power is low especially on inclines..I´m leaning towards the fuel pump now also..as if its simply not pumping enough in. which is what you said brett !
I´m assuming you mean the small pump with the 2 connections from the fuel lines and not the injector pump block setup !(which is hyper expensive)
I have to say its difficult to see what can be wrong with such a small element, which having seen inside it seems to be mechanically driven???
anyway, I feel a little more informed about my car..doing the valves was a big step forward
cheers all sig
