''79 280CE Suspension

Thanks for your reply. No its not a grey market car. 100% german import Log Books / service manuals back to day1.
I have recently returned from the 'states"& spoke to a ex Merc mechanic who said he can only get them direct from Mercedes.
Do you know where in Australia they can be obtained ?

I like the w123 Coupes, and am driving a 300CD myself.
If the leveling system is the SLS as on the T models, there is a huge whitish oil reservoir to the right side of engine (when looking at it from the front) behind the radiator. It's the hydraulic reservoir for that system .
NOT gas.
I have never heard of it on a coupe either other than SECs(W126) and T models(W123).

According to the law of mercedes.....

It is highly illegal to post a thread like this, with out including a full photo profile of your car...

If you do not abide by this law, I must report you to the supreme court of benzworld

it was optional on all sorts of cars. The 6.9 had it standard of course, but the W116 and W126 cars had an optional full (4-wheel) suspension. The W114, W107 & W123 cars could be ordered with the rear-only set up.

BTW, to the US member that asked about this car being grey market. The owner of the car is in Australia, so the answer to your question is "yes".

The import of spheres to australia does run into some hazardous substance transport rules because of the pressurized nitrogen present. I have heard the question asked before, but don't recall the solution. Ron Bunting would know.

Yes, Give imparts European a call .
Imparts - Home

They are at Eagle Farm not far from the gateway. They will deliver too. Dont go to the dealers as this will cost more than you paid for the car.
If the shock absorbers have failed too, a place in Virginia repairs them. Cant think of the name off hand.

the sphere has a diaphragm in the middle , it is loaded with nitrogen gas under high pressure , so it is half oil , and half gas .the sphere fails when the diaphragm leaks , and the nitrogen gas goes away , you then get a bouncy feeling at rear suspension .they are around $ 200 each .

Well this opened a can of worms !!!!!!! Firstly the disbelievers that a '79 280CE would have gasball suspension. Then the oil only" there's no nitrogen school closely followed by the "grey market debate".
Grey market in Australia is any import that does not have Australian compliance plates (mainly Japanese boy racers) not euro "prestige".
Thanks to all for an interesting thread. Mercmad6.3 Visited their website. Not very informative will have to pay them a visit.
