Two little parts

Hi
I got my engine from the shop tonight and in order to wash and paint the engine block they removed few leftover parts that I had attached such as water pump housing alternator bracket etc.

I managed to match the parts except these two little cylindrical items.

It seems like they were pushed into something as one side is clean while the other is not.

Anyone have any guesses?

Thank you

Dowel guide pins. Most likely from the block top. Used to secure/align the head to block gasket.

to me it looks like those parts are for locking the flightwheel on the front of the crankshaft.

To me they look like the dowel pins for keying the harmonic balancer to the crankshaft. They are supposed to be one-use items.

Those are smaller and have them
These are probably what Mike recommended and have been removed to polish the block surface
