Now I need a reulator and door brace. I did take the motor out to clean and test it. Work fine, good gears but the gasket under the back plate was shrunk. I'll need to find something to replace it with.

I also got an EPC login but I keep getting an error message when trying to log in. Says it can't connect to the website database. Tried to turn off the firewall and its still not working.
Re: door regulator.
they usually end up like that because 99% of people operating the windows let go of the window switch too late.
The force and continuous pressure on the last few teeth wears them down and it gets worse once they slip....

Re: EPC
that stupid Java program/application is hit and miss, even when you know it should or last worked....
Firewalls, browsers and java versions and update usually throw everything off.
Mine only works on I Exploder, that I NEVER USE except for that p.o.s.
Good luck with that one.....

I feel your pain. I also have a 280SEL (almost the same build date) and I use her as a daily driver now. I've put about 20,000 miles on her in past 3 years.

I recently had an issue with a head gasket and ended up gong down the exact path you are going down. Front two intake manifold bolts broke off in the head. Then I had a head bolt break off in the cam tower. Long story short, I purchased another engine. I ended up pulling the heads on that one to do some valve work, but now it is all together and running good again. I do have parts for your engine if you need them. I ended up going with a euro 4.5 motor out of a 74 SL so I have higher compression and a few more ponies now.

If you have any questions about the car, I've been into almost every part of mine.

So far, I have: built new engine harness (engine fire by PO), stripped and painted, new interior (yes I changed color on body and interior), re-cored radiator, alternator, power steering pump (you can rebuild the pressure hose yourself for about $2), converted AC to R-134 (changed compressor and all hoses and converted to a 450SEL style dryer), new AC blower, rebuilt power steering box, converted to Pertronix. While I was swapping motors, I did front/rear seals, front/rear seals on transmission, rebuilt neutral safety switch ($5 vs $100+ for new), new guides and tensioner, new chain, all new gaskets and washers.

I have also redone the entire front end and subframe bushings.

If I had it all to do over again, I would because I love the car, but my wife would definitely not let me.

I think I'll do the Pertronix 91885 Ignitor II Ignition Module with one of their Flame Thrower 45111 coils when I redo the EFI harness....

Weekend update.

I noticed a third intake manifold bolt broken off as I pulled the entire EFI harness and ECU out of the car. I have been doing a little more reserach on connectors needed to rebuild the harness as well as looking into MegaSquirt with EDIS...

Got some tail lenses from a board member. Washed and dried. Placed on a shelf.
Received a Bilstein Jack in the mail off eBay. My car didnt have a jack.
Went by the Pick N Pull yard.. Nothing new...

I just ordered some 6Jx14 aluminum wheels that I hope are MB part number 1234001502 ...unfortunately, they only had three ...
They were advertised as 14x6 for a 300D but no actual pictures, just stock photo... I'll update this when I get them....

UPDATE:
OK - The wheel placed called me back... they aren't the aluminum wheels... just plain steel.... cancelled the order....

So I have been toying with the idea of an LSx swap... I would actually love to run an all aluminum 6.2L LS3 with a 4L65e trans... (I just need to figure out how to make it a 6.3L and use a factory MB trunk badge....)

I found a nice ($$$) aluminum front sump oil pan that I think would be perfect. Its from a company called Sikky and the have conversions for 350z/370z/240sx running LSx motors. I have emailed them for some rough dimensions to check for clearacne of the factory subframe.... SIKKY Manufacturing

So I bought a W220 S65, 1 of 427 ... so no more projects for me... This one is going up for sale. Bought a 15" AMG clone wheel for a spare and a correct jack because it didnt come with one. Also got a spare window regulator for the passenger front window.... so $200 spent on those extras. I also got a spare intake manifold that I was going to ceramic coat. There's also a few small pieces.... Would like to get $1600 for everything....

I'll post a For Sale thread too....
