Interesting Surprise - M129 Engine In My 220SE

I've had this car for over 20yrs. and always thought it had a M127 2.2 engine but just found out that it's a M129 2.5 from a 250SE/SL.

When I first got it way back, it needed head work and gasket so had that taken care of and have been driving it on and off for years.

I felt like getting it on the road again lately so did all the maint. stuff and got it running, but noticed a couple oil leaks.

One leak was on top of valve cover at the bolts another was by the side of engine by distributor, doing some research yesterday I found that this leak on the side was at the tach drive which 220 sedans don't have.

So today I checked the block and it's got a M129 block so that was strange. I was always curious why there was a 230/250 dipstick in there too, now I know why.

So I've got a 127 head, M129 block, 127 distributor and two piston fuel injector pump. (head #1270161601, block #1290110001, distri. #VJUR6BR61T)

Well fortunately just about all parts and tuning are the same for both.

Interested mix of parts that seem to work fine. Now got to find a way to plug the tach drive. Later.

hmm, interesting. Doesn't the M129 block use the 3 piston injector pump? And the M129 is the best in my opinion...more power than 220, more bearings, and no overheating/AC issues of the M130.

M129 and M130 both have 6 piston injector pumps. Put your VIN into EPC and see what engine it thinks you should have, or look on the datacard for the engine number...
