Question New Trunk Pan for w115 300d?

The trunk in my 300d has pretty much rusted out due to a leaky trunk seal and possibly a rear window seal. I will be keeping the car in a heated garage all winter, and I plan to repair/replace the seals in the spring.

What I am wondering is if there is anywhere I can buy a new trunk pan that I can have my body guy put in after cutting out the old trunk?

All W114/115's are the same. Being in Cleveland reduces your odds but you might find a good deck locally to cut out. To the best of my knowledge nobody has the stamping die or is making the plate.

The traditional issue is the car came with a rubber mat. And water would get under it and rust unnoticed until very late.

Depending on where and how bad you might just replace the bad sections with a heavy gage sheet metal welded in the bad spots - or maybe a single sheet covering the whole floor welded from the bottom. Don't forget to put holes for the fuel level sender.

Then take it to one of those places that covers pick up truck beds - not the plastic liner but the painted on kind. That stuff is really tough.

Bu sure to not plug the weep holes on the left side - there are two and fairly small but if water gets in again you want it out ASAP.

Finally in your search for the leak don't forget the tail lights. They are easy to fix and often leak.

If all else fails, you can find a few sheets of 14 gauge steel and have them welded on to both the underside and trunk floor. Then you should paint it all up with POR 15 to encapsulate any rust. Put a good bed liner on top.

W115 parts

My father-in-law, a 37 year certified M-B tech, has a 1975 W115 300D with a bad engine that a customer abandoned in 1992. He would sell this car to you cheap. It could easily be pulled onto a trailer. Because he lives outside San Antonio, Texas, the car does not have the rust issues common to the "mistake on the lake" (sorry, could not resist).

Tranny perfectly good and seats were completely redone before it was abandoned at his ranch. If you want to discuss, PM me and I will give you my number. The car is too nice to go to the crusher.
