I have this slight oil leak coming from somewhere in the engine bay. It seems to collect on the engine crossmember, sort of middle in the engine bay. It drips a couple drips a day, but it has definitely gotten worse over the past half year. It has made a good puddle in the driveway, I'd estimate about 0.25 liters have come out by now. It's about 85% on the dipstick, but absolutely within limits. Oil pressure is healthy, pretty much 3 bars at all times, unless you come off the throttle.
Here are some pictures from underneath the engine bay.
The greasy stuff is rust protection, making it pretty hard to figure out the leaks. However if you shine a light on the rust protection, it doesn't shine back but turns this sort of goldish colour. The oil shines back in a rather black colour, making it possible to see the traces of oil. Seems to come from the left of the engine bay.
It isn't the rear main seal, as far as I can see. The transmission to engine linkage is completely dry with no signs of engine oil. However if I move my hand around the area of the engine crossmember, I get soaked in oil.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm suspecting the injection pump has a wonky hose somewhere (seems like my model, being a 1970 280 SE has the injection pump fed with oil from the engine itself). Anyone know what could be causing these leaks?
