w116 350 SE Transmission

My auto transmission is stuffed. It won't engage in any gears (even reverse). I want to spend as little money as possible. Wondered what sort of cheap gearboxes would be fit into my old v8 for a DIY home job. Any suggestions would be appreciated? Otherwise it looks like the 'Mighty Merc' will be heading to scrap yard.

Are you saying that the rest of the car isn't good enough to warrant properly fixing the transmission? Cheap way is to get a transmission from a wrecked car. Next is to have the transmission rebuilt and you install it. Finally is to have the transmission rebuilt and they install it. In the US that runs about $1800. My opinion would be to decide if the rest of the car is a pretty good car, and if so save it, and if not scrap it. I think the idea of fitting some other "cheap gearbox" to the car is not a useful idea...
