Are you saying that the rest of the car isn't good enough to warrant properly fixing the transmission? Cheap way is to get a transmission from a wrecked car. Next is to have the transmission rebuilt and you install it. Finally is to have the transmission rebuilt and they install it. In the US that runs about $1800. My opinion would be to decide if the rest of the car is a pretty good car, and if so save it, and if not scrap it. I think the idea of fitting some other "cheap gearbox" to the car is not a useful idea...
