I would verify that you are getting spark to the front three wires (you can get a light tester that plugs into the wire and then plugs into the spark plug and should flash as the engine is running.
What happens if you pull out more than one of the three that seem to do nothing? Will your car actually idle if you pull the 3 out?
Are you sure you have them plugged in in the correct order? (I don't mean to be insulting, it's just that what you are describing is a bit odd...)
