Need a Pagoda top?

I found this top on ebay. Won't fit my 107s but looks like nice top for the $$.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1966-230SL-Removeable-Hard-Top-fit-all-SLs-1964-71-W113-Great-condition-/331043973432?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item4d13c22938 #ht_500wt_1022

I don't know why this is not giving a hotlink. If interested copy and paste. It is a red top, looks immaculate. Starting bid is $450.

I have to speak up. I have dealt with this seller in person in the past. This is not someone I would do business with. Not only were his items "not as advertised" but he called my husband and I "faggots" and was nearly threatening.

In my opinion this is a seller to avoid at all costs. I do not trust his listings and honestly I think he is a crook.

My 2 cents, YMMV.

Thanks Scoot. I certainly would not have posted this if I knew this. I am fairly new to benz-world and thought this was a good deal for someone needing a nice pagota lid. I appreciate you report on this. Mean people are a bitch to do business with. I am sorry you encountered such a closed minded person.

I'm sorry I encountered him also. And it's good that you posted it. A hardtop is hard to find and the opening price is good. It's just that I would want people to be prepared to deal with an asshole, cash and carry, and inspect it very completely. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if it has serious defects. One thing I noticed in the photographs is that it seems to not have the interior wood around the back window. That's wrong. My car also lacks this and I know it is wrong. But if that is wrong, what else is wrong. A missing latch could be a real pain to solve. Any missing piece is a problem. If it was dismantled and reassembled improperly that's a big deal.

New / Old to the community isn't really the issue here - I doubt very much that many people on the forums would have recognized this seller. I only did because I have such a nasty memory of dealing with him, and that had to be a couple of years ago. Given how long he has been selling, his feedback is remarkably low.

Above all, this would be an item to NOT buy and have shipped without inspecting it and without actually taking possession of it in-person to verify completeness. Don't hand him the money until you have possession.

So he does. FWIW I saw some wood that he had refinished and it looked nice. But what's he's done is remove the wood from the hardtop and try to sell it separately. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he has removed other essential parts.

And his description is bullshit. I would bet dollars to donuts that this man has never owned a 230 SL and never stored one in his garage...
