I thought w114 describes exactly the body style and M130 the engine

W114/W115 and M130 are perfectly acceptable and are usually the preferred way to list the cars and engines combination. The differences would be between the coupes and the diesels and they are minor. They are still W114's mechanically.

Using the numerical listing leads to confusion. "My car is a 280C" can be a W114 OR a W123.

Nit-picking, I know but it helps keep those of us who are easily confused on the right page.
