Bypassing the switch gear? Trying to diag coil and switchgear

Can I put the green wire from the points in the distributor strait to the (-) side the coil pack and run the car like that to bypass and rule out issues with the switch gear?

This is a 1973 w114 280 with a m110 engine that has been retrofitted with a holley 390 carb.

no, but those switch gear can be found on ebay for like 30$ plus shipping. Save the old one, they usually only need a transistor replaced.

As for diagnostics, you need to see dwell from a meter hooked to the lead, the box needs to be well grounded. All of the wires should have continuity (only use the continuity setting when the circuit has no voltage present or you blow up the meter) nd be correctly connected to the right spots, and the two resistors and coil should have about the right resistance.
