New purchase- cross country trip -W114 250C-Keeps firing after I shut off Ignition-
This is my first post as I am very new to this forum. I used to frequent e90post when I had a 335 so Im happy to join another online community and learn about my new car. Just picked up a 72' 250c and drove it from CA to NY. It was an awesome trip as I expected and now that I'm in NY for a week I am trying to fix a few things before I begin the second part of my journey which is from NY back to where I live in Miami.
So through the trip Ive had these problems. Some I fixed temporarily:
- Auto Choke on one of the Zeniths was stuck closed so I had some pretty horrible gas consumption. Ended up taking chokes off
- Gear shifting is pretty violent.
- Going uphill, car lost all power and would slowly die (seems to have gone away since taking chokes out)
- One of the shafts going from the accelerator to the carbs has a lot of play which means that the pedal only starts to accelerate the car when its pressed about 50% down. THis results in the car never being able to hit full throttle. I played around and took some of the slack out but im going to have to replace that shaft.
***Finally the one im worried about now is that when I take the car out and its performing well, when I try to turn the ignition off the car will keep firing away. It doesnt have any real power and it sounds like a car misfiring really badly. It ranged from 3 seconds to about 20 seconds. My girlfriends dad heard it today and said it was bad news and I needed to check that out asap.
Anyone have any suggestions or experience with this or any of my other problems? Thanks in advance!
