After some research ,but hey, who can know all the rules in a forum, sub-forum or section moderated by others and looked at in a different light/from a different angle. Opinions differ.
I don't even know, if I am in the right sub-forum, but it kind of relates to OLD Mercedeses, and that's why I am here starting with this thread .
If I am in the wrong place, move the thread please.
This guy is trying to sell parts off a car he just bought.
Running and driving 30 years old, and survived this long and several owners before he got his hands on it.
The HEADLINE on his first post clearly says:
"FS: 19x5 xxxxD Decent, but maybe worth more for parts?"
So right away, you know he's angling to part out the running and driving car.
He is going on a brief superficial description, no photos nothing.
(Violation of section rule, description is nowhere complete to convince a buyer to hand over $3250 for that car....)
Ending the post with being "pretty good at parting it out too", whatever get's him the most money.
A minute later follows a link to craigslist with a non working link, but clearly with the intention of avoiding a lengthy description or an adequate post.
(Another rule violation of the FS section).
So clearly he maybe trying to sell the whole car on craigslist, but aiming to profit more by selling parts and off this car and destroying a complete and 'decent' 30 year old car.
THEN, not even 15 minutes later follows a detailed list of parts off the same car and the corresponding prices.
So he must have started typing that next post the second after he posted the whole car for sale (THINKING HE WILL SELL THE PARTS RATHER THAN THE CAR) !
Is this an enthusiast forum for the preservation of these cars ?
Should anybody be allowed to ripp these cars to shreds and profit grossly from it
AND FLAUNT it HERE ???
I have lived by the motto of keeping cars together for thirty years.
A big effort goes towards the rare and hard to replace models.
Let's say cars, of which body-style that they only made 20 000. Or even 10 000 or less that were ever made.
Unless they're wrecked, seriously rusted out or mechanically worn and undrivable they should be preserved, especially, if you call yourself a fan of these cars, they should have a second chance, since they DON'T MAKE THEM ANYMORE. The rarer the car the more obvious that this rule should be followed !
If a guy states that he parted out at least two cars and gone through 18 different cars (of the same model), and sold a beautiful low mileage car, just in turn to be looking again, there is something really amiss.
He is doing it to profit and profit ONLY.
Should a forum like this openly support this sort of behavior ?
I can see, that most of us have parted out an occasional car to revive another or keep it going.
But going through 18
cars sounds like a running enterprise, an ongoing business.
I think the FS rules should reflect some of these ethics.
What is the consensus here.
I don't know if this topic has ever been touched upon and what generally the opinions here are leaning towards.
I would love to hear from everybody, even one-liners will do?
Thanks to everybody throwing in their ideas.
