The crane is an upgraded ignition, how much better is pertronix?

the engine noise now is on the overrun and can't even think where to start.
the overrun knocking can't be because of the timing but I've been wrong before.
by the way it is only when hot that the knocking happens, on cold start smooth as pudding.
If "knocking," I'd suspect the engine internals. You *might* overcome that with thicker oil, but the issue causing the sound would still be there. The video you uploaded of the slack in the timing chain leaves me with some worry. Again, I'm not that familiar with your engine, but is there a chain tensioner that needs adjustment, or a hug?
If "paint can rattling," I'd look to the distributor and timing. My 114 blew a good cloud of smoke when decelerating - a very clear indication, apparently, that the vacuum advance was bad.
I'll see what I can dig up about your timing/distributor system after work. I think I uploaded about everything I could find regarding your engine - there might be a nugget in there that might help?
