1972 250 sedan problem

i am not a Benz man. I am a bimmer man. i like buying pre 90 cars playing with them and selling them. i picked up this 1972 250 with 68,000 miles my intention was to sell it on ebay and not touching it. the first go around with ebay it sold for what i wanted but the buyer was a bidder not a buyer. its on ebay right now but i dont think it will hit the reserve. (im hopping it wont).

the car has a problem starting i think the carbs need rebuilt and i have the kits.

yesterday i tried starting and it would not fire. i am not getting any spark at the points. i would really like to swap the points for electronic and i am looking for the best set up to do this.

i have decided to keep this car for a while.

hope you guys can point me in the right direction to get rid of the points

I thought that would get some attention....both are great cars and both have their place. I played with Benz's back in the early 80's but moved on to BMW's. I really like how the early 70's and earlier Benz's are built and very well thought out.

My friends have named this 250 the "KGB" car because in the old spy movies they seem to have driven these.

nice looking car! I would suggest just replacing plugs, wires, cap, rotor, points, condenser and should be good to go! Nothing really wrong with points setup. Be sure to use genuine Bosch, beware there are counterfeit Bosch out there. If the price is cheap it aint real.

My 108 ran *OK* when I got it, but when I replaced the points with a Pertronix unit, it ran AWESOME. The thing never needs adjustment and will last forever.

I bought mine through the local Napa Autoparts store, but you might be able to get them factory direct. Another brand option is "Flamethrower" and both can be seen on eBay now and then (probably used).

Yep. Pertronix and a Bosch blue coil. Bypass the resistors and connect 12 volts from the ignition switch to 15 on the coil.
