Radio Fuse Location for 280SE 4.5
Example: 1972 280SE 4.5 with factory installed Becker Europa Stereo. The 8A fuse protecting the radio circuit is found in a dedicated fuse holder located on a bracket in the engine compartment attached to the right side of the firewall. This bracket contains many other relays and electrical components necessary for driver and passenger comfort. The fuse holder itself is constructed to house two fuses, only one of which is present in this application, and appears as a rectangular brown bakelite cover fastened in place with a ribbed plastic knob and screw. It is the only item in my engine compartment sporting such a ribbed knob fastener.
As others have found, a mysterious loss of power to the radio can often be traced to slight corrosion on the ends of this fuse. A quick cleaning by rubbing on a gentle surface such as your denim pants is generally sufficient to restore your listening pleasure. The more obsessive among us may employ more drastic measures such as replacement of all fuses, dielectric grease, etc., but after 41 years a quick buffing worked for me.
