78 280CE Steering Box Seal R&R
I have a 1978 123.053 Coupe. My Power Steering Box output shaft has a slow leak. I purchased the new seal, circlip, and locking bolt in prep for the job. I just want to run it buy some other mechanical types before I start the job.
First order of business is to remove the lock nut. Then I will scribe the arm and the shaft, so I reinstall in the proper spline. I have 'air' for my impact gun, to help pull off the Pitman Arm. Once that is removed, I will remove the circlip, pull the old seal, and plan on some drainage of steering fluid. Do I need a special mandrel to seat the new seal?
And I assume it is necessary to put the key in the ignition, and release the steering wheel lock, before I start the job.
And am I missing anything. Advice is always appreciated! Thanks.
