I bought a 220s about three months ago, so I'm a ponton newbie. This car looks OK for the money. Rust and missing trim parts are a big concern. Generally, sheepskins are a sign of poor seats. The mechanical condition will be obvious. It needs to start, run with some amount of power, steer, and stop straight and without clunks, rattles, whines, etc. No giant leaks.

Parts for the sedans seem to be easy to find and the IPOG is an amazing support system. I was able to get brake and fuel system parts from Mercedes. They are very simple mechanically.

I would go for it. You will get a lot of smiles, hand waves, and thumbs-up driving it.

Looks like a decent car; check the basics as mentioned here and report back what you decided to do.

I'd love one of these old pontons, especially after moving the shifter from the column to the floor (from the research I've done, you'd be using parts from a 190SL to accomplish this). Don't get me wrong, I love column shift, but if I were to daily a car like this, I'd prefer it on the floor as opposed to on the tree.

However, before I dare pick up one of these, I've got my old W136 in need of a motor/gearbox!

i drove a 60 190b for many years as my daily only driver in atlanta traffic. i never found it to be underpowered at all. i loved that car and wish i still had it.

anyway one thing i remember about them that i had to deal with was the cardboard heater core thingys under the hood on each side. they disintegrate over time so if this car has those check them out real good. what a great looking car.
