Aftermarket Temperature Gauge for M121 Ponton Engine

My 1960 190b's temperature gauge does not function, the cable is cut, and while I search for an original replacement, I want to put something in there to get a reading. Always nervous about driving without a temp gauge. I bought one from autozone, $17, the probe fit fine, but the fittings they provided were too large to fit the M121's head. The thread width is 1/2", and the fitting that came with the the $17 part were 6/10" and 3/4". Any leads to an aftermarket unit that would work?

I'd try Lowes or Home Depot for something generic. If it's temp, no reason to pay lots of $$

Check with the Beemer/Audi/SAAB parts suppliers in your area or their forums.

Asian cars would probably have probably have the metric threaded units also.
