1971 220 fuel gauge not working

Hi All
I just bought my first Mercedes on saturday. 1971 Meecedes 220, gas engine. I am very excited to have saved this car from the scrap yard where the previous owner was gonna send it. The car had been sitting for more than a year. A new battery new, spark plugs, and adjusted the point and drove it home. Now the first thing I need to sort out is that the fuel gauge does not function. I don't know were to start on trouble shoting so any advice will be appreciated.
Thank You
Brandon

Is it on "E" or "F"? How about the other instrument panel functions? Lighting? Signals? High beams? The fuses are notorious for corroding, so I 'd start by pulling all of them out and giving them a good Dremelling. Then that'll leave the sensor and the gauge...

go in trunk , at middle remove the round plastic plug , unplug wires , turn key on , with a jumper wire connect 2 pins together , when you have the right choice [ 3 wires ] the gauge in dash will jump to full , if that is the case , the unit in tank is bad .also , pop the cover on plug to see if you have a broken wire .[ seen a few ]
