Newbe needs help.

First of all hello to everyone. I recently found a 72 220D barn find. The head is off the motor due to pre burn chamber issue. I received the new chamber and all the gaskets to reassemble. The issue I'm having is the size of the opening in the new chamber. It measures at about a 1/2" wide and the old ones are a little smaller then 3/8". I also removed what I thought was a heat shield from the remaining three but I'm not sure now. I had to pry them out but they look totally different then what I'm use to(VW). There like small sleeves with a collar. So my question is two fold. Was I suppose to take that small like thing out and does it matter that the openings are different size? Thanks Mike
