Can You Help? Need 280SL Trunk Emblem...

Hi everyone;

I have read old (like 5 years old) posts about people needing a trunk emblem for a 280SL but no one ever posts results, so please bear with me on my request.

I have a new-to-me 1979 280SL 4 speed and am in need of the 280SL trunk emblem. I've reached out to all the parts dealers (and some Mercedes dealers, esp. in CA) I can find and everyone says it's not available.

Does anyone have any contacts or leads they could share on how to find this? It can't be impossible....can it? I'm happy to order from the Old Country if that's what it comes to.

I'm located in Seattle.

Many thanks!

Thanks Fishigan, appreciate the reply. I saw that one earlier today but at the bottom of the page it says FITS CHASSIS 113. MODEL 280SL. YEARS 1968 - 1971. ACTUAL ITEM PICTURED.

Do you think it would work? My VIN starts with 107...

Thanks again.

There are 2 different chassis. You have a R107 280SL 1974-1985. W113 is 280SL pagoda 1967-71, much more rare and expensive.

Go ask over in the R107 forum for it.

Hi Rumb - sorry to bug ya, but one other question...I have a W107, not R107. Does that matter? I'm new to all of this so thanks for you patience. I'll definitely head over to the other forum if you think that's the best place to look for one.

The 280SL is an R107, not a W107. (Though the leading letter doesn't matter very much at all except to a purist; my wagon is technically an S210, but everyone knows what I mean when I call it a W210.) In any case, the R107 forum is the one for your car.

"The W107-series SL, sometimes also known as the R107 (for Reihe, or ’series’ rather than Wagen), was nicknamed by insiders as the ’Panzerwagen’ when it was under development, because it was so heavy.

I learned something today, didnt realize there was confusion about letter. I think this happened becauase it's predecesor was a "W".

As above, the official is R107 and is listed so on this forum.

From what I understand the W-prefix is an umbrella which covers both the R107 SL roadster and the C107 SLC coupe variants, so as far as I'm aware both R and W accurately describe your car.

Good luck with your search, I'm not certain if the 113 and 107 280SL emblems are a match. Since it was never a US model, you may have more luck finding a new one through a foreign ebay. So far all I've checked a few and all of the 280SL badging I've seen is from the 113.
