You will prob get different answers but I use Rotella 10-30. It has good additives for older engines.

So it seems like the colder climate guys stick to 10-15/30 while the more "normal" climate (southern california here) people are going with a 20w/50. I'm going to change the oil for the first time on my w108 4.5 too. I appreciate the question and input. One more thing...does anyone go with synthetic for these cars?

No
Synthetic is too thin and you will have leaks
Unless your engine is rebuild but most will not recommend

Do some research on synthetic. It does not cause leaks. In fact in many cases it stops leaks. If your car already had leaks, then they need to be attended to. Synthetic causing leaks is an issue that was an issue twenty to thirty years ago when they were first starting to get widespread use. That is old news since synthetics have additives that swell the seals just like dino oils. I have used synthetics in every car below except the 240D and no new leaks.
