Before you go too far down this path - if your car is like my car, there are electrically operated idle jets. If power isn't going to them, the idle jets close. So the car won't idle at all. If memory serves correctly, there are two wires going to both carbs - one for the idle jet and one for the electric choke. The wires should always be +12V when the ignition is on, otherwise off. The fuse is on the passenger side of the firewall (I think) in an auxiliary fuse box. Rule this out as a problem before you go further.
