Metric oilite bushings
Do any of you hard core do-it-yourselfers know of a source of metric bronze bushings. The drive end bushing on my 190SL starter is worn and since it takes forever to access the starter I'm going to replace the bushing while the starter is out and disassembled. Typical of this car this is also a pain. Is the armature shaft 12mm? NO Is it 13mm? No It's 12 1/2 mm. The bushing in question is 14mm OD, 12 1/2mm ID and 14mm long.
Disassembling the generator showed that it is in fine shape. The grease in the 52 year old bearings is still greasy and the bearings are perfectly smooth turning. Oddly the bearings are open rather than sealed and they are the same as in my '36 Chevy generator, #6202.
