Need some help ID'ing steering wheel

Need some help in ID'ing model and year this steering wheel and shifter knob came out of.

It is Vintage Mercedes Benz Steering Wheel and Shifter Knob, both made of wood, with wheel having metal plate with what we assume is gold paint over metal. Metal part is pitting pretty bad in my opinion, however do defer to any experts that want to weigh in.

Now the "what we know", my wife is Republic of Panama, so makes the vehicle of origin from Panama as well, her Uncle has been holding these for her (his favorite Niece) in hopes we could adapted them to fit her MB. Well to no avail, her CLK, due to the airbag can't use it and never tried the shifter knob as they are a set. I wish I could tell you the year and model, but since he has owned multiple MBs over his life, he cannot remember which one, but it came from the "old one".

Anything you guys can tell me would be greatly appreciated.

Some people like these wooden steering wheels:

Maybe you can find a buyer if the wheel is in good condition.

The round star plate is from an original MB steering wheel. Can be replaced for a better one.

Thanks agillot and Govert70227

Thanks for your help and suggestions, do like the wall art one, there is something to having your friends and family commenting on your gaudy wall art behind your back...

After talking to my wife's uncle about it again, he purchased the vehicle from American that worked for the Panama Canal Commission. Now it makes sense on the aftermarket steering wheel. Most likely, this person bought the vehicle while stationed in Germany. At some point at his change of stations he replaced the original wheel with this aftermarket wheel. This was the early 70's, pre-piss test Army and Canal Zone after all.

Got another question, her uncle also gave her a shag carpet rake, think there is any value for it....
