"HELL YEAH!!! Right on! I love it when someone overcomes Mercedes adversity, without having to pay the Stealership, Classic Center, or specialty shops exorbitant prices for "right" parts!"
The business model used in our country bases prices on "What the market will bear". If Mercedes owners and restorers are aware that they have options and shop the needed parts around that will affect "Stealership" prices.
There will always be some who have more money than brains and think that there is always a direct correlation between price and quality. Others understand that there are often "right", as you put it, parts that are "right" because they fit and work properly even though they were originally intended for some other application. Examples are the VW Fox front brake hoses that fit the 190SL I'm working on or the 1 1/16 inch Chevy pickup master cylinder cup that fits the same car.
Another thing to rememeber is that car companies, including the exhalted Mercedes, actually manufacture very few of the small parts that go into their cars. Those parts are manufactured by outsiders who also sell identical parts to other retail facilities with prices way lower than dealer prices.
