500SEL circa 1979 Valuation ?

Hi, I have just been given a 500SEL on private plates, the owner says it was first registered in 1979, I haven't got the log book yet! will do soon though. However it is in need of a little attention here and there but overall it a very nice motor, it's 17ft 9in long and green with gold trim, cream leather interior, Auto box, full electrics throughout., and it has all the spoiler kits attached, it was also lowered by Mercedes when it was being prepared for its first owner, I do believe the suspension springs were turned over making the car very low but sleek, now I need a rough idea on how much it is worth when it is in a decent condition with a full 12mth M.O.T. Just so I can work out whether it is worth doing or not! Anybody out there can help I would be very appreciative..

Pictures. Lots of pictures.

What you describe is a little confusing based on the model year and potential modifications, especially the "lowering". I find it difficult to understand why the factory would lower a chassis.

Take a lot of pictures and find a place to post them, such as Photobucket. Then post the link to them here.

I don't know, it says they were made from 1980-1985....they may have ordered it in 1979 but it is a 1980 model. If it was customized by the factory, I would imagine this person was very wealthy....it may add a lot to know who the previous owner was. Though the length is a bit long, states that the long wheel base saloon is 203in. Again pictures would be very nice...

Pickapa, please fill in your profile. From your use of the words MOT, I am assuming you are in the UK. In the UK it was possible to get a W126 500SEL in 1979 according to some research I just did.
I saw two similar cars for sale in the UK one for 4995 and one for 11995pounds
