Fuel issues for 1978 450SL
just bought a 1978 450SL...it is my second one and this one is for restoration purposes. My main issue is that it is very tough to start...it is like there isn't enough fuel getting through the system. The fuel pump is new, the tank has been cleaned and checked and everything is fine, it has a new strainer, the lines are clear, everything almost is new...but it still is tough to start...I have to start it with ether and I don't like doing that anyways, but once it is started, it either runs slightly rough, or it chokes itself out. When I step down on the gas it backfires, or doesn't rev at all...I did have it when I first started it where it would rev up nicely, but backfired a little still and it idles ok after I got it to do that...the car itself is in rough condition but the engine looks pretty decent.
Like I said, the fuel pump, fuel lines, fuel strainer...it's all been replaced....does anybody have any ideas on it?
