1976 240d shifting problems
last week on my way to work my 76 240d started to have shifting issues. the trans was rebuilt about 50k ago.i was in bumper to bumper traffic and during acceleration it started to slip. it did this in all gears. it didn't bang into gear it would flare, shift and then feel like it was bogging and eventually get up to speed. i got home and checked the fluid. the level was good. it was red and didn't smell burnt. today i did a drain, fill and filter replacement. the fluid looked great as did the filter. i did however find a small piece of what looked like cardboard in the bottom of the pan.
has anyone had a friction plate lining come off? i know water will do that but the fluid looked so good. could enough water to delaminate the friction plate lining be present without making the atf look like a milkshake? would a bad friction plate make shifting bad for all gears?
