I paid $1000 for my 108 and now have $30k into it since 2005. If I went back and repaired only what "had" to get done (tranny rebuild, new ECU, rust repair, speedo and cable), I'd probably have paid no more than $4k or so, and that would have included labor.
In my case, as I started to restore the thing, I'd replace working parts with new ones (dumb), I paid for rust repair (metal, paint, primer, et al). I've found parts easily, and I've almost NEVER gone to the dealership for things - too expensive. Folks here vary between purist and "just-git-er-done" types. I've easily found parts on eBay, specialty shops, Napa, autozone, etc. This forum also offers great info, tips and insights that I've used throughout the years.
