W114 gas smell

I know it's an older car and this is my second car but I do smell gas around the car more than I should in my opinion
It's not in the trunk and the exhaust seems fine.

In my opinion is coming from the engine bay. I don't have the housing air filter installed as I am waiting for my k&n filters.
Fuel hoses are all replaced.

Where else can I check and what are the usual culprits?

Thank you.

I have the same problem. I know it's an old car too, but the fumes are not pleasant. I have replaced the gas lines and the gas cap. Mine seems to be
worse when I open a front window when going 60 mph. 2 MB guys have looked and can't seem to find anything....durn. Any suggestions?

Same here, only when windows open at 50-60. I'm just passing it off for now, it's an old car.

My '74 280C does it. My '71 250C doesn't. It also seems worse with the front windows down and cruising down the road. I think mine is from the vapor canister in the trunk. When I open the lid on a hot day I get the smell strongly. The sender gasket isn't leaking, the vent lines are clear and I don't see any fuel trails. The problem seems worse when the tank is more than 3/4's full.

I know mine isn't from a leaky carb because I converted to F.I.. I can't help but think it has something to do with a routing problem of the original vent line on mine. I'm going to route the vent into the air intake plumbing to try and create a low pressure open vacuum condition while running. Can't run a sealed vacuum to the canister because it will collapse the tank. Ask me how I know.

Not having the stock air filter housing or a bad gasket can cause the problem.

My 72 250 does not have this problem. I have after market k&n filters on the carbs. I did install a new cork fuel level sending gasket when I had the tank boiled out. And a new gasket on the gas tank cap. I know my system is tight because when I go to fuel up, and I unscrew the gas tank fuel cap, some pressure is released.
