What is this going to my block?

Can someone tell me what this is coming from the block (drivers side and to the rear next to the number 6 cylinder) and it looks like its connecting to the transmission? It seems like when it disconnected, the transmission shifted a lot rougher at slower speeds. I am thankful for any help.

It's a temperature sender of some sort, like a gauge sender. Have you traced the wire to the source?

No not yet. I was going to get the car on ramps and and crawl underneath, but its been very windy and cold. Still even getting some very light snow. Hopefully on Sunday, I can trace it.

It's the engine temperature gauge that goes to the dash cluster
Don't fool around with it as they are expensive to replace and come in one piece
Cheers

it is a 63 f deg switch , when coolant temp is below that , the ignition timing is advanced , also same over 212 f [ switch at top of tstat cover .] it is just a electrical switch , nothing expensive there ]

Well guys, thanks again for all of the great input! It defenatley runs better with the wire connected! (Who would have thought?)

Kavadarci, sorry my photo was a little misleading. The gauge sensor that you mention is the one that is connected near the front of the block, this is another one towards the back of the block.

She is running almost too good now, that there is a thought in the back of my mind saying "This can't be right"

Still needs new shocks all around though.
