Question for w114/w115 owners

I am trying to remove my gauges and I have a cable that goes through a bolt near the middle that I believe operates the gear selector indicator. How do I remove this?

Never seen a '74 W114 with a gear selector cable. The only ones I've seen are console shifters. Are you referring to the speedo cable? If so, there is a clamp down on the firewall which you can undo to give you a bit more slack in the cable. This will five you more room to unscrew the speedo cable.

Is this a diesel? My '74 280C gasser has an electronic oil gauge but the diesels may still have the manual gauge. It will be a thick plastic line on the left hand side of the cluster. 10 MM wrench to remove it.

No, it's definitely for that. My car has the gear selector on the steering column. When I tighten and listen it, it changes how accurate the needle is.

the cable hooks at the shift lever , it is very visible , carefully unhook [ fragile ] , then slip of the sleeve of the bracket .if you look under dash , you clearly see everything .

Question for w114/w115 owners

When I tighten or loosen the screw on the back of the gauges it makes it move and you can put it how how you need it. Can anybody tell me how to get heat to come from the center vents please? It only comes from the ones on the sides.
