Hello I have a 1975 300d I am in the process of restoring as it sat for 7 years. It has 127xxx miles and I took it to a local Mercedes tech to look over after purchase. He serviced the transmission; adj. valves; fixed my door locks and heater fan. I left his place and took it to the guy who has painted it and only driven about 20 miles in it. One question I have is it seems like it has no overdrive. If this is the case is there another model transmission that's not vacuum controlled and should I even mess with it? I don’t plan on driving the car much due to the money I now have invested.
picture before paint* thanks for any input

Very nice model. When the tranny shifts is it forceful or smooth?

For all of us who have W114/W115s with heater fans that don't work would you please be kind enough to expand on your comment that your Tech repaired your heater fan. What was wrong with it and what did he do to repair it?

there is no overdrive , just make sure you are not stuck in 3 rd .this was a good trans , it is bullet proof . this is a under 70 mph car , if you want to go faster , buy a corvette .

The fan was the blower motor resistor switch. i got it from autohausaz.com it was $217.55 pn 0008353706 and it was an orgional mercedes part.

It shifts great. No issues there.

I am not worried about the speed just the high revs at 65mph. i had a 83 240d and it seemed to have overdrive or lower revs at higher speed. i was jw.

pics after paint yesterday.

I work at a chevrolet dealership and ordered them from American Tire there uniroyal tires tho. i shaved the side marker lights and the holes for the american bumpers. i was worried of the look without the side markers but i really like it.

It should not have a vacuum-controlled transmission. The transmission is controlled by a rod, running from the linkage. It starts in second gear (unless in L or when kickdown is used).

Well i drove it last night from the bodyshop. It seems to only have 3 gears. I guess the adjustment is off. If I start from Low to Second to Drive it never shifts again.
