1972 220 D clutch problem
Stranded yesterday, unable to get into gear (115 chassis, manual transmission). Double clutching several times failed to engage into any gear, while the engine had been running quite smoothly for > 30 miles. The clutch pedal returns normally to the upright position.
However, when the pedal is pushed nearly to the floorboard, I can feel some grinding and the engine shuts down. Engine restarts easily. After repeating this process several times, all the while toying with the floor mounted gear shift, I was unable to get into any gear.
Mechanically inept at 75+ y/o, I had to abandon and call for a tow. Any thoughts ? Thanks.
