An option you have is to replace the bellows with shocks. My dad did that with his 300 and everything is bolt on.

Another option is to go with a modern system - or sell that stuff. I can't imagine it would be all that difficult to change over...

shocks are already there ,the addition would be coil springs to replace the bellows.
The front needs the correct lower control arms for the coils .

In addition to the M100 group forum check out they do a lot of work on 600s and 109s. They do rebuild the air suspension valves for around 800-900 each. Two in the front, one in the rear and the main valve.
If it's just the looks your after I say go for a W108 280SEL 4.5 or even the inline 6 280. You just will not get the chrome and wood trim around the doors as on the W109 300SELs.
I currently own 2 300SELs, a 4.5 and the 6.3. The 4.5 I have owned for 33 yrs. I have replaced the air bellows once and they are in need of it again.I did replace the valves with new ones about 20 yrs. At that time the car would stay up for months without being driven.
This my second 6.3. Sold my first one 25 yrs ago and I've always missed the torque and the ability to "squeak the wheels daddy" as my 3yr daughter said many years ago which prompted this recent purchase. This car is in great but not perfect condition. I 'm the 3rd owner and it came with receipts dating back to 1974 which total 42K to give you an idea what has been spent on maintaince (mostly at the MB dealer).
I work on my own stuff so hopefully I can eliminate most labor charges.
Many parts can be rebuilt or found used but here are a few list prices for new items for the 6.3 from the dealer.
Starter - $2100
Radiator - $1750
Fuel injector $2650 each
Fuel injector pump - $14,000
If you don't do your own repairs make sure you have access to a knowledgeable mechanic who can diagnosis problems without the electric plug in brains because there's no socket here.

Buy the best you can afford. Look for rust around the rocker panels, headlights and in the trunk. Check the chrome trim on the doors and around the windows and make sure they are in good shape as some are NLA.

PM me if you have specific questions and we discuss over the phone.
