NO AUTOCHECK OR CARFAX AVAILABLE?

planning on buying a 1976 450SLC. Is there a way to get a history report other than Carfax or Autocheck? Just want to know of any accidents, actual mileage and clean title. Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

I think carfax only works with the a 17 digit vin. That didn't become the standard format for vins until 1981, so it probably won't work for anything older. You could try going to the secretary of state, but they will only have history of what happened within that state.

If you're tight with the dealer they can pull a VMI (Vehicle Master Inquiry) that will show all dealer services performed on the car. This is only relevant if the owners continued to do some work at the dealer, but even if they only went occasionally it may still help you connect the dots to help prove that the mileage at least is correct, or incorrect. No records with the car?
