Ok, there are a few things here on this question.

1) You might not be aware that there is an entire forum dedicated to the 107 body here: R/C107 SL/SLC Class - Benzworld.org - Mercedes-Benz Discussion Forum It's quite active, and very helpful.

2) Yes, there are things in the exhaust ayatem, but they are a primitive variation on the catalyctic converter called a Thermal Reactor.

3) removing them is problematic, as they are actually part of the exhaust manifold. The accepted method of dispensing with them is to get teh manifolds from an earlier (71-74) 450SL, installing them, and doing a little exhaust system work.

4) Removing them could cause you to run afoul of Emissons Control, depending on where you live.
