Brand new to the forum and also new to becoming a Mercedes owner!
I am just about to buy a "classic" motorhome - a 1982 370D Tabbert conversion with a 2.4D OM616 engine in her. I have heard these are "bullet proof" - was just wondering if anyone had any advice for me that I might find handy, such as parts that I may want to keep in the van due to known failing elements of the engine, ways to handle the bus, what to look out for etc.
I know it is going to be painfully slow in a 3500kg truck and only 4 gears to go through, but speed isn't everything! Anyone know of what other engines version could be dropped in, that have a little more punch?
I am planning a trip from UK around Northern Europe - does anyone know:
The size of the fuel tank on these models?
What kind of miles per gallon I met get, say averaging around 50 mph....it is going to be a long trip, maybe about 1000 miles so aint going to be cheap.
I had reckoned on about 250 miles per 50 litres (about 11 imperial gallons).....anyone tell me if that sounds right?
On a final note, i am really quite excited about leaving the VW stable and moving over to the MB.
