Air cleaner Too Restrictive! Need some advice on modding.
So over the last few days of tinkering with the carbs and making adjustments, I noticed that everytime that I would take it for a short test drive without the air cleaner on, there was a VERY noticable increase in power and getup, put the air cleaner back on, and the power would decrease quite a bit. Living in an altitude of 7100 feet above sea level, this engine is already struggling for a good supply of oxygen and looking at how the air is supposed to get into the air cleaner, seems to me like there could be a better way. I am trying to think of some type of mod that would allow more air into the air cleaner, such as an airdam on the bottom of the bumber that would force more air into the corner of the engine bay where the opening of the air cleaner sits, or an after market higher flow air cleaner (K&N, if one exists) or even cutting an angle in the entrance of the air cleaner, or possibly drilling a series of holes along the "neck" of the air cleaner to allow more air. Please give me some thoughts and advice on getting more air into the carbs. Thanks guys!
