Steering box bolt

Lately I need to steer constantly to keep my car in a straight line.
I checked the under the hood and the steering box is moving together with the steering wheel.
I checked the bolt holding the box to the chassisi and it is moving too.

I'm planning on welding a plate to the chassis and using longer bolts.

Any suggestions or recomendations before I do this?

Check under the indercoating for stress cracking around the thru-frame-spacer and torque the three bolts. The only plate I have seen was on a 300SEL 6.3
(very heavy front)

Check all steering links/tie rods

My 1967 108 suffered the same condition with the steering bolt pulling through the frame. I repaired it by welding a metal plate to the outside of the frame (it has predrilled holes for the steering box bolts), and sealing it with frame paint. It has since worked fine for over 15 years
