97 C230 guages stopped after car wash

My speed-o-meter, fuel gauge and temperature gauge and tach stopped after a car wash. I checked the fuses under the hood and when I turned on the headlights they started working, but the next time I cranked the car they were not working. I still have lights there and the clock, odometer and trip gauge still works. Any ideas? Everything digital works, it is just all the gauges with arms have stopped. Also the light in my A/C, Heat unit doesn't come on even though the unit works fine.

sounds like a bad ground. Look for contamination, especially around ground nodes.

It could be coincidental, never underestimate the power of coincidence to really make you work hard! Try pushing the cluster inwards to be sure it's seating properly in the connector, maybe some random movement of the car wash caused it to slip just enough to not connect/ground.

The ground nodes are anywhere you see a ground wire terminate, just check all that you can find for instruments, fuse boxes and battery, clean, unbolt and rebolt (with battery disconnected of course) and see if that helps. Unlikely but I know the W202 is sensitive to a weak battery and symptoms will slowly pile up, so test your battery as well just so you can exclude it as a possibility. Many have be confounded only to fix their problem with a new battery.
