Need information about a 300 SEL I have (1972?)

I have a 300 SEL (1972 I believe) that I need to get rid of, but I don't know a lot about it. It belongs to my dad and I have to sell it for him. He got it in trade from a lady and thought it'd be nice to have but never got around to using it due to a problem with the shocks. Presently the car is so low that I think all four shocks must be gone now. It was running before and had been drivin around some but I think the engine has problems.

Here's my question: Can anyone give me an idea what this thing is worth when trying to sell it? I'm not a Mercedes guy, but I thought the forums could be helpful so I was hoping to get some good feedback here regarding this car. The paint is pretty good with a hint of oxidation on the front drivers side, the interior is pretty good but the front seats have started to crack. There is a medium dent on on the front left quarter panel and some of the molding is starting to fall off in a couple places. It does still look good generally, but it is definitely starting to come into a state of needed preservation.

I have no pre-set ideas of what I think this will net us, but if anyone can give me an idea of what range I might want to expect it would be greatly appreciated.

It's not the shocks, . The car has air suspension and the system has no air pressure and the air bags are deflated.

Inside the engine compartment is an engine driven air pump, under the front drivers side fender in front is an air tank.

Please check The International M-100 Group for more information. Look under the 6.3 forum. Yours is the smaller engined 4.5 brother, but the cars are the same.

Not part of the in-crowd since 1952. It's BRAKES not breaks. You break a bone, use brakes to stop your car. /rant

Examples that are in really nice condition can go for $7k, perhaps more, but they're rust free and run very well. If all your air bags are in poor shape, the car might go for $1500-ish. Look through eBay and Autotrader to get an idea of asking prices. Look also at for a ballpark estimate.

Can you add more pics, especially of the interior and the undercarriage?

Thanks guys, I'm going to go see the Mercedes specialist about the airbags tomorrow, and I'll take a bunch more pics and put them up on here tomorrow afternoon. Thanks again for the feedback.

Nice car! The 300 SEL 6.3 is on my wish list after I win the lottery.

I sold my 1973 280 SEL 4.5 a couple of years ago for $8,500. Essentially the same car as yours, but with the spring suspension (thankfully) instead of the air suspension. It was a no-rust CA/CO car with about 65,000 miles and in great shape. Good luck!
